The essentials
Where can I find the app?
The ÉCRIN HOME app is on the App Store, for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Apple TV. Install it, then sign in with the ÉCRIN account your installer opened for you: your home appears.
The ÉCRIN HOME app is currently in French; the English version is on its way.
Is ÉCRIN really subscription-free?
Yes, for your home: the app, remote access and updates are included with the Écrin. Some advanced features (video surveillance, video door entry, wall display) are activated by licences, most of them permanent: bought once, yours for good. Two optional extras are paid yearly, because they rely on an outside service: Cars and the Assistant. Your installer activates them at your request.
Who can see my cameras and my data?
You, and the people you invite, according to the permissions you give them. Images and history stay in your home: in the Écrin, and in your home’s recorder. Remotely, your phone reaches the Écrin through an encrypted tunnel: our servers relay it without seeing into the house.
Do I need a KNX installation?
ÉCRIN is built on KNX, the open building standard: it is the foundation, in new builds and renovations alike. Around it, ÉCRIN integrates your networked equipment: Shelly plugs and relays, Dahua cameras, DoorBird video door entry, LOQED and Nuki locks, Daikin air conditioners, Sonos, Enphase solar, OCPP chargers, Samsung televisions. During the visit, your installer tells you what is possible in your home.
My home has Domovea. Can I switch to ÉCRIN?
Yes. Écrin Studio takes over a Domovea installation from its backup: the devices and their rooms, the automations and the consumption history. No need to set everything up again.
Where can I find the user guides?
Your installer gives you the home’s user guides: Getting started with Écrin, Energy day to day, Security, cameras and alarm, Scenes and rules, The ÉCRIN HOME app, The people of the house, The screens of the house, Vehicles, Everyone’s Home screen, the shopping list and the calendar, Écrin talks to you.
Energy
Is my EV charger compatible?
If it speaks OCPP 1.6, yes: the Écrin controls it directly, without the manufacturer’s cloud, over the home network or, for a 4G charger, through the Écrin’s encrypted tunnel. Start, stop, limit the current, badges with a monthly kWh quota, charging that starts when you plug in. Control has been tested with an Autel charger; your installer checks yours before fitting. Your Tesla is added with the Cars option.
Is my electricity contract taken into account?
Yes: off-peak hours, Tempo and its red days, or a contract set line by line by your installer. Regulated prices follow EDF and the French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE): a new price grid reaches your home without an update.
Do I need a meter for every device?
To know what a device consumes, it needs a measurement: a KNX meter in the distribution board or a Shelly module on its circuit; an OCPP charger provides its own. A device without a meter does not show ‘0 W’: the figures displayed are measurements. The home’s consumption is calculated once, by the Écrin, from the metering diagram drawn by your installer.
When something fails
What happens if the internet goes down?
The house carries on: switches, scenes, rules, heating and cameras work on site, in the Écrin. The app, however, needs the internet, even at home: it waits for it to return, as do notifications, options and online weather.
And if the KNX gateway fails?
The KNX bus does not depend on the Écrin: your wall switches keep controlling lights and shutters. The app, however, can no longer control KNX devices until the link is restored, and your installer sees the failed link in Écrin Studio.
And if the power goes off?
The house stops along with its distribution board. Nothing is lost: the configuration is backed up every night, encrypted, in three copies, and a two-step rule still completes even if the Écrin has restarted in between.
How do updates arrive?
Automatically. Every improvement goes out to all homes. If an Écrin does not restart after an update, it automatically reverts to the previous version. What changes is set out on the What’s new page.
Installation
Can I install it myself?
No, and that is a deliberate choice. Every Écrin is fitted and set up by an approved installer, trained on the product. It is the guarantee of an electrical installation done to professional standards, and of a home supervision system that keeps its promises over time.
How long does an installation take?
A few hours to connect and set up the Écrin on an existing KNX installation, several days if the project includes cameras, video door entry or a distribution board renovation. Your installer commits to a timeframe in the quotation.
And if I sell the house?
The Écrin stays with the house: it starts afresh for the new owner, without your data or your access. Your account keeps your other homes.
Can my installer work remotely?
Only if you allow it. At handover, you give them access for 48 hours, 7 days, 30 days or with no time limit, or none at all. You are notified of every person they add or remove.
People
Can the whole family use it?
Yes, each with their own account. In the app, Configuration, People: you enter the email, choose a profile (co-owner, family, property manager, guest, cleaner, pool technician or gardener, babysitter, visitor), then adjust what the person can do, their rooms, their hours and until when.
My home is a rental: what should I do?
Give your concierge service the Property manager profile: it adds and removes guests and staff without ever touching the family, and you are notified of every arrival. Each stay has its arrival and departure to the minute, and the departure holds even without internet. Your installer can also require the app even on the home Wi-Fi: being on the Wi-Fi is no longer enough to control the house.
How do I give access to the person who does the cleaning?
Choose the Cleaner profile: the lights, the shutters, the sockets and the gate, Monday to Friday from 8 am to 6 pm. No cameras, no alarm. Change the days or hours if needed: outside their time slot, the app refuses.
Do the people I invite have to create an account?
Yes, an ÉCRIN account in their own name, so that everyone has their own permissions and notifications. If the person already has one, they get access straight away. Otherwise, they receive an email with a link valid for 14 days. If it does not arrive, the app offers to let you share the link yourself.
What happens when I remove someone?
The person loses access to the house in under a minute, and their widgets and notifications are cleared. What they did stays in the log, with their first name.
How do I delete my account?
From the ÉCRIN HOME app, on iPhone or iPad: My Écrins, the profile button at the top right, My account, ‘Delete my account’, at the very bottom. Within a home, the same screen opens from Configuration, People, My account. The app tells you what will be erased and what remains, then ‘Delete permanently’ and a final confirmation: it is immediate, and an email confirms it. Full details.
Holiday rentals
Does Écrin sync with Airbnb or Booking?
No, not today. You add your guests yourself, on one screen: a first name, an email, two dates. The door code and the Wi-Fi code are created automatically.
Does the guest have to install the app?
No. The shared message gives them the door code and the Wi-Fi code. If they install ÉCRIN HOME, they also find their rooms, their scenes and their codes in ‘My access’.
And if they forget their code?
They can find it in the app, under ‘My access’, ‘My codes’. You can also send it to them again: ‘View and share the codes’, on their profile.
Who can see the codes?
The guest sees their own. The people who manage the house see them on the guest’s profile. They are stored encrypted in the Écrin, in your home.
What does the guest see of my house?
Their rooms and devices, their scenes, their codes. By default, not the cameras, the EV charger, the settings or the technical alerts. You adjust this when adding them, device by device.
Day to day
How do I put the family’s calendars on the Home screen?
Any calendar that provides a calendar link can be added to the family schedule: iCloud, Google, the school’s. The Écrin reads them; it never writes to them. With the Assistant, an appointment you dictate is written by your iPhone, after your ‘yes’.
Is the shopping list shared?
Yes, by the whole household. Everyone sees it on their Home screen and adds to it by touch, or by voice with the Assistant. Each item keeps the first name of whoever added it.
How long are camera images kept?
With a Dahua recorder, playback comes from the home’s recorder, as far back as it keeps images: 17 days on the reference house. Each detection also keeps its photos and its short clip, up to 100 GB by default; the oldest is deleted first. A visitor with camera access can only play back the last 24 hours.
How do I know who opened the gate?
Each keypad code is named once. After that, the notification and the log give the first name: ‘Sarah opened the gate’. Anything opened from the app is also recorded in the log, with the first name of whoever did it.
Does my LOQED or Nuki lock work with ÉCRIN?
Yes. A LOQED lock connects to the Écrin through its bridge, on your network; a Nuki lock talks to it directly. In the app: lock, unlock, the door’s status and its battery, and the log that says who opened it (for Nuki, openings made from the app, and those from the Keypad with the code’s first name). With a DoorBird keypad, your installer can set two codes: one locks the door, the other unlocks it. The lock’s keys and invited users are still managed in its own app.
What does the watch do?
The Apple Watch receives your favourite actions, alerts that break through Sleep and Focus modes, the video intercom chime, and ‘vehicle plugged in’ with a button to start charging. Sensitive actions require confirmation.
What does the Apple TV show?
Scenes, cameras in full-motion video and energy, chosen TV by TV, with standby at the times you set. You decide what is allowed to interrupt the TV: a leak, someone ringing, the gate left open.
Can you talk to ÉCRIN?
Yes, with the Assistant option. In the ÉCRIN HOME app, touch the sphere and speak as you would to someone in the house. The house acts within your permissions and answers in a natural voice, up to 20 voice commands a day. Your voice is recognised on the iPhone and never leaves it. All about the Assistant.
Does it work with Amazon Alexa?
Yes, with the Assistant option: the ‘ECRIN HOME’ skill is available in the Alexa app (More › Skills & Games) and on amazon.fr. Everyone links their own account, chooses the home their Alexa controls (one per Amazon account) and controls the lights, shutters, heating, air conditioning, sockets and scenes by voice, within their own permissions. Never the gate, the locks, the alarm or the cameras. Find out more.
